Ok my impy is leaking a bit from the back.  Im pretty sure its due to a gasket problem can't think of anything else it would be. So being that these gaskets have pretty much disappeard unless you buy another imp I'm thinking of making one out of some thin metal from work and using the old rubber one as a template.  Do ya'll think this will work? Or are these gaskets made from rubber for a specific reason?

So I gotta say....  No.  The gasket needs to be a soft rubbery substance to make the seal, but not require a lot of torque since the 'noid screws are pretty small with tight threads.  Metal will not seal at all and you'll just get leaks all over given the other surfaces.

ok so I found a place that had some gaskets and ordered two....then I got the bright idea that maybe the gasket may need some lube...I got Dow whatever it is I think its 33 or something like that...the thick pink stuff.. maybe this will help seal it eh?  I looked at the gasket and it looks like it in good condition no tears or rips or anything

That may help seal it.  If it isn't in rough shape, perhaps you have another problem.

yes, you always need to put a small amount of lube on the gasket. that will def help.
