Question about older style Impulse bodies and vertical adapters

If you have an older style impulse with small tapped hole under the adapter, can you just remove the air bleed screw in there to use a newer vertical adapter that does not have a matching hole? I can't see where the screw does anything and it looks like you can just remove it. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks.

Are you talking about the screw under the vertical adapter that just helps keep it from rotating around? Is it an older style with gas feed through front handle and horizontal MaxFlo?

I think it is the screw that keeps it from turning around. The gun been upgraded to using a CP regulator and didn't have a horizontal max flo when I got, so I don't know if it had a gas-thru grip and horizontal max-flo originally. It is an older style one, the serial number is 032608 if that helps date it.

With that Serial number, you have a newer Imp. I have number 13045 and it is the newer style. I also have a 4000 series that is the old and if you look in the I-O Library, you can see the manual for the 2000-2001 compared to the 2002-> for some of the differences. That said, I believe that the only function of that small allen screw is to help align the vertical adapter and keep it from spinning under stress. I could be wrong so others that know more should chime in.

That is the only function of that screw that I know of. If you have the screw...just leave it there.

I ended up taking the screw out so I wouldn't have to tap the VA. I got everything to fit tight and seal so I think it wil work out. Thanks for the help!
