Breech tolerance issue
«
on:

I just picked up three impulses in a trade, one of which is a very nice looking predator. The only problem with it is that when I cycled the bolt with my hand (gun was degassed) it would stick when pushed forward. The bolt starts to stick before it touches the detents so I know it's not catching on them. I also tried four other bolts and they all get stuck at the same place. I have shot paint using these bolts in my other impulses and they work fine.
I'm thinking the solution would be to send it to Tarantula Milling services and get the breech bored out ever so slightly but I wanted to ask here first as this is the best place to ask anything impulse-related.
Thanks,
Drew

have you taken your bolt out of the breach and looked for uneven areas or maybe something gritty just a slight amount of sand or metal shaving can cause the bolt to stick forward

No, the breech is clean. I was taking some parts off and the hammer is sticking as well. I was able to get the ram housing out but the hammer is stuck. I also managed to snap off the air fitting for the LPR when trying to unscrew it. Looks like this is gonna be a project gun. Luckily I got a spare body so I still have three full guns, but the spare body is just stock, not fancy like the predator.

You may be able to drill out part of the snapped off LPR nipple and use a screw extractor to back out the remaining part. Hopefully they only used the red loctite and didn't cross thread that part of something. You say that you got the ram housing out but the hammer is stuck. Where? With the pin out of the bolt so it isn't riding with the hammer, does the bolt still stick in the same place or is it actually the hammer that was causing the bolt to "stick"?

I have the ram housing and the ram removed, and the hammer can be pushed to hit the valve and back. But it will not slide out the back of the gun. As for the bolt, I tried them without putting the pin in and they all got stuck at the same place.

What is the hammer made of? If it is brass or aluminimum, it may have gotten damaged. I think that the stainless steel ones are too hard to ding, but the others can chip or get nicked; especially by missing the slot in the hammer with the bolt pin and then firing. Is this with or without eyes? Does the bolt go past the eye hole if it has one? Take the eyes out and see if they are damaged or protruding. A vision detent in the non-eye side? Where does the bolt actually stop? Take both detents out.
