Hello!

I am happy to say that I am a new Impulse owner, but I am a little disappointed that I didn't know about this site until today haha I went and spent some money on a new feed neck, a new hopper, and a few other things that I could've found here for half the price I paid lol

I have never owned and electric gun before, my previous gun was a spyder victor lol and I haven't played in probably 6 or 7 years but the other day I went and Ii forgot how much fun it was, so here I am blowing every paycheck on paintball related items lol

With that being said, I really have no understanding of the 'dwell'. I read the manual, I searched the internet but I can't find anything that really answers the question for me. So I know that it regulates how long the solenoid keeps the valve open but what I don't understand is if I would want the valve open longer or shorter? and how does the dwell affect the way the gun shoots? (does it increase speed, etc etc.)

So the guy I bought it from had it listed with a delron bolt, and an adjustable magnetic blade trigger. From what i can tell, only the trigger was upgraded as the bolt appears to be stock. How good of an upgrade is a delron bolt? I've seen a few things about it but I still don't really see it being worth it.

Now, heres my Impulse. I was told it was a 2005 but after finding out he lied about the delron bolt im not sure if he was telling me the truth about it being an 05. It came with a tapeworm, which I dont really know what its for cuz i havent researched it yet but i figure it helps lol. also came with a nice drop forward and an air tank, which is 3000 PSI and 45 cu. What does the 45 CU signify?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Imp world and I-O.  Glad to have you here and back into the game.
So many questions. Dwell, Bolt, CU
CU is easy - refers to the volume of the tank.  A 45 is smaller than a 68 is smaller than an 88.  Smaller holds less gas.  That in combo with PSI equates to the number of shots you can take with the tank.
Delron is a material like plastic.  Those bolts don't require o-rings like the original aluminum ones.  They don't scratch, are non-stick and are light weight.
You are correct that the dwell is how long the solenoid stays open.  A higher dwell will use more air than a lower dwell all other things being equal.  It has to do with tuning your marker to be gas efficient.  Loads of factors from valve type, LPR, HPR and internal weights affect that setting.

good summary Black! And welcome scutter.

It's hard to tell what year stock Imps are...but too be honest, it really doesn't make any difference if its 2003 or 2005. The gun still operates the same.

post a pic of your bolt so we can help identify it. I'd reccommend an NDZ equalizer bolt, they are the best ones available and are a cheap upgrade for the impulse. I have one I could sell you if you're interested. But lets take a look at your current bolt before anything.

Thanks for your help guys. I actually happened to take a look at all the threads on here and i read the i-o library one and that helped quite a bit too. how much for the equalizer bolt? if you dont think it would matter too much i think i might just get a delron one from a guy in the b/s/t thread for 10 bucks. heres pictures of my bolt, although after doing some research last night i have a feeling that it is a 2005.

That looks like an OEM part for sure.  You may want to clean the lube out of the air hole.  (Last Pic)  You are only going to get your barrel all goopy with that and start winging shots with crazy spins.  Don't overlook the bolt pin too if you replace the bolt.  The OEM pins weighed about as much as a small dog.  Getting the weight down on the bolt and pin will help with the dwell settings and increase efficiency.

Ok so I finally got the minor things on my gun fixed, mainly just replaced a lot of the orings, and i went and filled up my air tank and got all excited to go out back and waste some paint but as soon as i put my air tank on, it leaked. The first leak was in the back where the blue circle is. I got that one fixed, it was just that screw on the back, on the other end of the tapeworm spot was loose so i tightened it up and it doesnt leak there anymore. but now i have a leak where the red circle is and i have no idea where from. the leak slows down as i decrease the operating pressure, does that mean theres something wrong with the regulator? i cant exactly pin point where the leak is coming from.  Undecided

EDIT: So i took apart the regulator, not the whole thing but the part where the gauge and relief valve is and cleaned it out and made sure it was all tight. the leak is coming from between the solenoid housing and the gun. not really sure whats going on here. i have read about a gasket somewhere but i have yet to find one, is there one thats supposed to be there?

When i asked about a gasket i thought that there was one between the trigger frame/ solenoid housing and the rest of the gun but i did end up finding the gasket you are talking about and it is well intact. I did find out what the problem was; even though i just replaced the o rings on the valve seat, one of them was broken and thats what created the leak. I really appreciate all the help ive been finding on this forum. Thanks!

oh and lights out, i pm'd you about that bolt

it's true, the life span of an "active member" on IO is pretty short. but it's really just the nature of the impulse than anything. since the imp discontinued, everything that can be talked about, already has been. unless we get some new blood in here like you! haha

IO is here more for informational purposes than anything else.
