So I've been a smart parts die hard after playing with a couple SP cockers back in the early 2000's, and I'm a die hard shocker owner, but i recently came across an impulse on craigslist and decided to "impulse" buy and grab it (notice the pun).

The gun is pictured below... But i have a couple questions....

1. I want to get a new body for it, nothing too fancy, i'm just not a big fan of the square top on the back of the gun... Know anyone selling something or that can make one?

2.  I'm not sure what the guage and the thing attached to the rail is... I'm used to standard ASA's and though i have seen this before... I'm not too sure what exactly it is?

3.  The extremely rediculous long thing coming out of the gun underneath where the barrel sits... what is this and why is it so long? And what can i do to replace it?

4.  Crazy question... but i was wondering if there was any possible way to get a body made with the forward grip angle'd inward? (Similar to the Autococker SR)

5. Is there any advice anyone can give me about owning impulses and can you tell me what year it is?

I know it has a WAS board in it, and i don't think it's ever been flashed, so i know that's completely stock Sad
Also... this gun is kinda heavy, getting rid of the old rail/LPR and getting a new body should alleviate the weight issues correct?

THANKS!!!!

congrats and welcome to the site Smiley

i can't tell you what year but looks like an older style, it has the gas through grip and horizontal reg.  to make it lighter you could get a vertical reg that goes where the gas through grip is, that would take away the huge reg on the bottom (what you are calling the rail?)

the long thing under the barrel is the low pressure regulator.  you want that!  it separates your solenoid from the rest of the gun, protecting it, reducing kick, increasing efficiency (more shots per tank), and accuracy.  there are plenty of link in the IO Library section.  i'd suggest reading most if not all of it Smiley

here is another amazing site i loose sleep reading.  http://www.zdspb.com/tech/mguide/impulse/index.html  very very useful all the way down to maintenance diagrams.

others with more knowledge should chime in.

Welcome to I-O!

You can find a vertical reg for sale here...

http://www.impulse-owners.com/buyselltrade/impulse-parts-520/

To answer your questions...

1. check out the Forum Sponsors section. Two of them will be able to mill a custom body for you if you wanted. But they are $$.

2. that's your regulator...which you need. So keep it there until you get a vertical reg.

3. that's your LPR...their are plenty out there that aren't as big and ugly looking. I'd recommend replacing the LPR if you don't like the look. But don't get rid of the LPR all together. it helps increase efficiency.

4. Yes, but will be very expensive. Probably not worth it.

5. imps are very easy gun to maintain and work on. Lube your gun properly and you'll be good to go. the year is about 2003/2004. And yes, imps are old bricks that are tall and heavy. a new body and reg will def help with that.

I can flash the WAS board for you if you want PM me. Actually sending out an email soon about I-O offering cricket board and WAS board software upgrades. So stay tuned!

And I will buy that LPR off you if you wan't to sell it. PM me if interested.

Thanks! You guys are awesome, If i knew there was such a great resource for impulses i would have bought a vision impulse long before i ever bought an sft shocker (currently an NXT).  But its very reassuring to know that despite SP's downfall, true believers and followers still exist.  But i'm in the works of finding a vertical reg, But i'd be interested in selling the LPR if i could find a blue replacement, and i'm also going to be looking to get rid of the horizontal reg after i get a vert.  Its in perfect shape (see picture above) and i'm not trying to get any huge amount for it.

I use a 68/4500.  Its not the tank psi capacity but the reg on the tank, if its high our low pressure

yeah i apologize if i come off as an idiot, I've honestly never really done anything as far as the technical side of the sport... any gun i ever broke i sold, and i never got interested in modding guns or rebuilding guns until now.  But i was also very very young when i started playing, hence the lack of intrigue in the tech side

Right...it makes no difference if you have a 3000 or 4500 with regards to the operation of the gun. You will get more shots per tank with the 4500 though.

Will that fit on the impulse? I'm guessing that Vertical regs are all universal?
